Digital Stories: Rwanda

During my three years teaching residencies and out of school programs for the Pearson Foundation one of the most moving projects I was involved with was an exchange program in 2009/2010 that brought together students from Rwanda and the greater Boston area to create films drawing connections between their studies of both the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide of 1994.

After a previous trip by the American students to Rwanda in the summer of 2009 and a year of subsequent online collaboration, the Rwandan students came to Facing History’s headquarters in Boston where I worked with the teams of American and Rwandan students, teaching them digital video editing and post-production and helping them to create their finished video pieces before heading to DC to present them to congress. The generosity and grace of the students involved in the project was wonderful to witness and to support.

More information about the entirety of the yearlong project and the other student videos can be found at FacingHistory.org
