Soft Circuit Bracelets

These soft circuitry bracelets were made in a workshop I lead for 6th and 7th grade students during a year long afterschool program at MS131 in lower Manhattan organized by Hester Street Collaborative, a community-based organization that supports and empowers local and new-immigrant community members on the Lower East Side to participate in the design of their public spaces.

The students sewed simple “soft circuits” onto strips of their own handmade and hand-dyed felt using conductive thread. By connecting a coin cell battery, to an LED and metal snap, students created a light-up bracelet that turned on when snapped to the wearers wrist.
